  • Yesterday was a significant day of remembrance as it was Memorial Day. Special tributes were held all over the country. At Fort Bayard National cemetery more than 4000 small flags were placed on gravesites and on Monday morning, an event hosted by the American Legion Post 18, paid tribute to veterans and active military who have made possible the lives and freedoms we enjoy. Andrew Welch, administrator of the Albuquerque Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, was the key note speaker.

  • You may have noticed the sidewalk blocked off in front of the historic Buffalo bar location in downtown Silver City. The reason for the sidewalk closure is to address safety concerns of the Buffalo Bar sign and building front stability.   Owners, the Trujillo’s, were given a 10 day action notice by the city, which has now passed. An engineer was hired to examine the structural problems, whose recommendation involves a complete reconstruction plan to stabilize the area, wrapping the damaged brink in metal mesh.
