Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Demolition has begun on the NM 90 Hudson Street Bridge.  The NMDOT and Interstate Highway Construction have CLOSED all access over the bridge.  The contractor has installed various notifications alerting motorists of the closures.  In addition, the NMDOT will have traffic control advising motorists that the county Truck Bypass route will be available.  San Vicente Trail will be closed at Corbin Street along with South Mill Road, and under the bridge.

At its annual spring commencement meeting on May 14, the Western New Mexico University Board of Regents met at the Silver City campus and approved several new business items including the recognition of professors for promotion and tenure.  Four professors were awarded tenure including Dr. Scott Fritz, Dr. Alexandra Neves, Dr. Margarita Wulftange and Dr. Sherry Bassi. Five professors were recognized with promotions including Fritz, Neves, Wulftange, Dr. Miguel Narvaez and Dr. Andy Warren.  The board elected new officers, reelecting Janice Baca-Argabright as Board Chair, Jerry Walz as Vice-Chair and Gabby Begay as Secretary-Treasurer.

The Grant County Board of Commissioners is in the process of appointing two (2) Board Members to the Gila Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees. Interested individuals must submit a letter of interest to: Office of the Grant County Commissioners c/o Denisha Lucero, Administrative Assistant, P.O. Box 898, Silver City, NM 88062.
