Hidalgo Medical Services announce this year’s scholarship recipients who were selected based on academic accomplishments and extracurricular successes. The winners of the HMS Scholarship by High School are: Lindsey Massey from Animas High School; Lexi Hooper from Calvary High School; Raelynn D’Ann Moon from Cliff High School; Brianna Martinez from Cobre High School; Maria Del Carmen Reyes from Lordsburg High School; and Wellington W. Woodward from Silver High School. The winners of the HMS Employee Child Dependent Scholarship are: Bethany Ann Pruit; Brooke De La Garza; and Angelina Bencomo.
New Mexico Community Foundation Permaculture Fund 2019 has awarded a grant of nearly $20,000 to the National Center for Frontier Communities that is headquartered in Silver City. The funds are earmarked for food projects that include hoop houses, creation of water cisterns, planting native crops and continuing the Grant County Seed Library.
The Office of Learning and Academic Opportunity and HELP-NM is providing free quality programs for pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and preschoolers at no cost in Deming and Columbus. These early childhood programs offer active learning experiences, meals, family health services and services to children with special needs. The HELP-New Mexico (the Office of Learning and Academic Opportunity) was founded by a group of pastors, farm workers, business owners and government workers in 1965. The non-profit group offers grant funded food assistance programs in addition to job training and social services for education. For more information about these programs, call 575-546-7414.
Vice President of Cobre FFA, Julian Garcia, presented a certificate of appreciation to Don Luhrsen, of the Mimbres Farm Bureau in honor of his assistance in sending Cobre FFA members to the state convention and leadership camp. Five members of Cobre FFA attended the state convention held at New Mexico State University and four members were able to attend the leadership camp held in Cloudcroft.
