Here’s a look at today’s local news:

A home located on Bridle Road in Santa Clara was reported just after midnight on Wednesday to be fully engulfed in flames. According to the Grant County Beat, the Santa Clara Volunteer Fire Department arrived first to the scene and requested tenders from the Whiskey Creek and Santa Rita volunteer fire departments to provide water. There were no hydrants located near the property. In addition, the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire and the home was deemed a total loss.

The Silver City Women’s Club is coordinating its annual School Supply Drive and is currently accepting donations at their building located at 411 Silver Heights Boulevard. The club has organized the drive each year by collecting donations from the community and sorting them out for distribution to benefit families in need. The club will accept donations of basic school supplies on Monday July 22nd from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., in addition to July 24th, 25th, and 26th from 9:00 A.M to 12 noon. The Silver City Women’s Club will give out the supplies on a first come first serve basis on Saturday July 27th starting at 9:00 A.M.

The Gila National Forest, Reserve Ranger District is reporting plans for district-wide pile burns, weather and fire conditions permitting. According to their release, with the onset of monsoon season, the Reserve District is preparing to burn piles at various district locations. The scheduled burns are scheduled to begin in August, and the piles will be burned throughout the monsoon green-up season as conditions are conducive to burning. The objectives of these burns are to reduce wildfire threat by removing piled fuels/slash created from past and ongoing thinning and timber sale projects.

Deming Public High School will again be providing school issued laptop computers for students with a usage fee. Students and parents are required to complete and sign the Parent-Student Notebook Computer Use Agreement before they can pick up the laptops from their high school. According to a release, Deming High and Mimbres Valley High freshman can pick up computers July 25th and 26th, seniors on July 29th, juniors on July 30th and sophomores on July 31st. Laptops may be picked up between 8:15 A.M. and Noon, and 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. on the assigned date.
