Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The Gila National Forest wishes to notify the public of the closure of four campgrounds on the Wilderness Ranger District.  A large section of the access road being washed out by floodwaters at the west fork of the Gila River has resulted in the closure of Woody’s Corral, TJ’s Corral, Scorpion Campgrounds, and the West Fork Trail Head parking access.  The closure will remain in effect until further notice to protect the safety of the public.

On June 9, 2016, the Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) Family Medicine Residency Program had its reaccreditation site visit from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).  The HMS Family Medicine Residency Program received its initial 3-year accredited residency program by the ACGME.  HMS is Hidalgo and Grant Counties’ only federally qualified community health center and serves approximately 16,000 patients every year.

A swearing-in ceremony was held Thursday morning for the newly elected county officials.  Magistrate Judge Maurine Laney provided the services for Treasurer Steve Armindariz, county clerk Marisa Castrillo, District 3 commissioner Alicia Edwards, District 4 commissioner Gerald “Billy” Billings, and District 5 commissioner Harry Browne.

In Luna County, Judge Jarod Hofacket helped administer the oath of office to four newly-elected officials on Thursday, including Treasurer Gloria Rodriguez, county clerk Andrea Rodriguez, District 3 commissioner John Sweetser, and New Mexico House Representative for District 32 Candie Sweetser.

Earlier this week, Governor Susana Martinez announced that State Police will be conducting a targeted law enforcement operation every three months next year to find and arrest drunk drivers who failed to show up to court.

As a reminder, the public is invited out to cheer on the Mustang basketball team, for free, as they play against Benadictine Mesa tonight at 6 pm inside Drag’s Court.  This will be the final non-conference game of the season for the Mustangs, who are 1-4 at homes this season, and played a close game against Benadictine Mesa the last time the two teams met.
