The Town of Silver City held their 29th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday evening in Downtown Silver City. The event was sponsored by the Town of Silver City and Hidalgo Medical Services. The event was also made possible through the work of many volunteers that include: The Lions Club; Gila Amateur Radio Society; Raul Turietta; Nick Seibel; Vietnam Veterans #358; and the Silver City Police Department and the Silver City Road Department. Parade float prizes were awarded according to three separate categories: Civic/Non-Profit; Commercial; and Individual. Representing the Civic/Non-Profit category the winners were: Guadalupe Montessori, 1st Place; Town of Silver City Fire Department, 2nd Place; and Town of Silver City Finance Department, 3rd Place. In the Commercial category, the winners were: Wheelchair & Walker Rentals/Alba Electric, 1st Place; Freeport McMoRan, 2nd Place; and The Silco Theater, 3rd Place. The Individual entry category winners were: LouAnn Palomarez and Betty Anya. 1st Place; Patrick Kosiorek, 2nd Place; and Tommy Castillo, 3rd Place.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation in cooperation with Safer New Mexico Now is funding a car-seat fitting station in Deming this week, Wednesday December 4th at the Deming Fire Department. Parents will be able to have their child’s booster seat inspected for recalls, improper installation, broken parts, and appropriateness for age, weight, and height of the child. For possible replacement, the seat must be present, and a $25 fee may apply. The inspections are free of charge and the child and seat must be present. The event will be from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Deming Fire Department located at 309 South Gold Avenue by appointment only. Call 575-546-9254.

Tomorrow celebrates “Giving Tuesday” deemed a global generosity movement created in 2012 to encourage people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. People are encouraged to get involved in their own communities to give of their time, talent, or treasure to an event or organization of their choice that benefits their community.
