Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Wreaths Across America day was this past Saturday.  3,024 wreaths were placed this year, up from 2,079 last year.  Only 7 wreaths were laid the first year Wreaths Across America was celebrated at Fort Bayard in 2009.  The guest speaker for the day was Susan Parks, Navy veteran and director of the Fort Bayard and Santa Fe national cemeteries.

Luna County officials will hold a groundbreaking on Thursday for the new $12 million project to retrofit and expand the Luna County Detention Center.  The project is expected to be completed in mid-2018, and includes a security retrofit of the current facility, removal of the shipping containers that were converted into jail cells, and a 288 bed expansion.  There will be a net gain of about 140 beds after the project is completed.

US Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at the Columbus port of entry seized 1.6 pounds of liquid methamphetamine on Sunday.  The drugs were hidden inside the rings of Native American-style dreamcatchers.  The seizure was made just aft 2 pm when a 2000 Dodge Neon entered the port from Mexico.  An officer initiated a secondary examination of the vehicle and a drug-sniffing dog alerted to six dreamcatchers in the vehicle.  Officers took custody of the driver and her two children were remanded to the custody of a relative.

Three federal fugitives have been added to New Mexico’s “Most Wanted” list.  Esteven Banegas, 39, is wanted on a parole violation for aggravated battery on a household member with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, and resisting and evading an officer.  Hector Rueda, 52, is wanted for failure to comply with conditions of probation.  He is a registered sex offender who was convicted of rape and has two prior DWI convictions.  Jose Araiza, 30, is wanted for failure to register as a sex offender and parole violation.  He was convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor and has one prior DWI conviction.  All three of these men could be in the Las Cruces/El Paso area.
