Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) with Interstate Highway Construction will be holding a public involvement meeting to discuss the NM 90/Hudson Street Bridge Reconstruction Project for Silver City.  The meeting will be held in the Grant County Administration Building, 1400 Highway 180 East on Wednesday, December 16th from 6 to 7:30 pm.  The NMDOT and the contractor will provide detailed information regarding the project specifications, and will answer questions regarding the timeline of the project.  The public is encouraged to attend.

The Gila National Forest will be conducting an orientation and training session for the Gila Southwest Firefighter (SWFF) recruitment program for the 2016 wildland fire season. To be accepted into the program, candidates must meet all of the attendance requirements, successfully complete a 40-hour training course and pass a Work Capacity Test. To qualify for the SWFF recruitment program, candidates must attend the Introductory Session on Tuesday, Jan. 5 or Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bataan Memorial Park, Santa Clara, located on Ft. Bayard Rd. between Terrazas Funeral Chapels and Ft. Bayard Medical Center. Candidates must also attend all of the 40-hour class Feb. 22 – 26, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., also at the Bataan Memorial Park. The Bureau of Land Management manages more recreational opportunities than any other federal agency, and most of these recreational opportunities are accessible to the public for free. A small number of BLM-managed recreation sites charge a standard amenity or day use fee, which will be waived on January 18, 2016(Martin Luther King Jr. Day), February 13-15, 2016, September 24, 2016 (National Public Lands Day), and November 11, 2016(Veterans Day).

US Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency Administrator Val Dolcini recently announced that producers who chose coverage from the safety net programs established by the 2014 Farm Bill, known as the Agriculture Risk Coverage or the Price Loss Coverage programs can begin visiting FSA county offices to sign contracts to enroll in coverage for 2016.  The enrollment period will continue until August 1st, 2016.
