Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The Silver Consolidated School district is asking for the input of parents and guardians on a proposed four day week for the students and staff.  The district invites you to attend a community meeting to hear about the four-day proposal and answer any questions you may have.  The meeting days will be Tuesday, April 18th at 6 pm in the Silver High School Little Theater, and Wednesday, April 19th at 6 pm in the Harrison Schmitt Elementary School Discovery Zone.  A parent survey will be available soon after both of the community meetings.  Learn more by calling 956-2000.

Residents of Grant County are asked to help the Imagination Library win up to $100,000 to get more free books into the homes of New Mexico’s preschool children through a USA TODAY initiative.  Please vote daily for the next month for “Just Imagine!” by visiting http://act.usatoday.com/submit-an-idea/#/gallery/57620042.  Voting will be held through 10 am on May 12th.  At the end of the voting process, the top 10 vote-getters in each of three categories will be invited to audition for the grant, and the winner will receive $100,000, and two runners-up will receive $50,000 each.

House Bill 536 was chaptered into law last week, creating a first-in-the-nation mechanism to allow New Mexicans to donate a portion of their tax returns to pay for the testing of sexual assault evidence kits in the state. According to the Office of the State Auditor, as of November 2016, there is an estimated backlog of 5,400 untested rape kits throughout the state of New Mexico. Testing each kit costs as much as $1000.  New Mexico has one of the highest rates of sexual assault in the nation, and the largest backlog.

Don’t forget about the Kiwanis Free Community Easter Egg Hunt that will be held tomorrow from 9 am to noon in Penny Park.  Children need to be registered for their hunt 30 minutes prior to the scheduled hunt time.  Learn more in a separate post on our website at SilverCityRadio.com.

We at Silver City Radio want to wish everyone a safe and Happy Easter!
